The debut album from Kanye West, before he went all screwy, is such a good album you can't help but respect the man despite 808s & Heartbreak and later musical and personal fiascos. Produced entirely by West and released on Roc-A-Fella Records in 2004, the album was 4 years in making beginning in 1999. You can definitely see the carry-thru from his work on Jay-Z's The Blueprint earlier in 2001, with heart, soul and funk influences really shining through. Should we judge him by his mistakes or his triumphs? One wonders.
