Ghostface Killah - Apollo Kids

A strong return to the original Wu-Tang sound that Ghostface was known for back in the day, Apollo Kids is definitely one of his best composite albums, featuring guest vocals by Raekwon, The Game, Black Thought, Redman and Busta Rhymes. Check out "Purified Thoughts" and "Ghetto". Released on Def Jam Records late in 2010.

Throwback Pick

Mobb Deep - The Infamous

Way back in 1995 Mobb Deep hit the East Coast hip hop scene with their second studio album, which turned out to be a huge influence and brilliant contribution to the gritty, dark New York hip hop culture. Featured guests include Nas, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Q-Tip and Big Noyd. The album also includes the seminal track Shook Ones Pt. II (to all the killers and hundred dolla billas!)

Pick of the Week (1/17/10)

J Dilla - The Shining

The second full-length release from J Dilla (since Welcome to Detroit), the album was not fully complete when he died in 2006. The album was posthumously completed by friends and collaborators including vocals by Common, Madlib, Black Thought, Pharoahe Monch and Guilty Simpson. Out on Barely Breaking Even records.

The Roots - Game Theory

A fantastic entry into The Roots discography, Game Theory is their seventh studio album, their first on Def Jam Records. Much darker, and somewhat more stripped down than some of their previous offerings, but still focusing on conscientious lyrics and topics as Black Thought is won't to do. Released in 2006, it has garnered good reviews for its material as well as commercial success, something not seen so much nowadays.

Throwback Pick

Digable Planets - Blowout Comb

The second album from neo-soul/funk hip hop group Digable Planets dropped back in 1994, following their strong debut album Reachin'. Guest spots by Jeru the Damaja, Guru and Jazzy Joyce. Sadly, the group disbanded a year later in 1995, but members are still very active in the hip hop community.

Pick of the Week (1/12/10)

Strange Fruit Project - S1 Presents: Music Box

An interesting compilation album produced by Strange Fruit Project producer S1. Featuring Rapper Big Pooh and Phonte (of Little Brother), Lifesavas, Rah Digga, Supastition, Skyzoo and of course Strange Fruit Project.

Pick of the Week (12/16/10)

88-Keys - The Death of Adam

The debut album from rapper and producer 88-keys, released in 2008 and executively produced by Kanye West. Other featured artists include Kid Cudi, J Davey, Redman, Bilal, Phonte of Little Brother, and Shitake Monkey. A great alternative album that should not be ignored.
